About Me

Becky Bergthold, LPC, RPT

I have a passion for working with children, teens, and parents to help them have healing and hope!   I can help with a wide range of behavioral and emotional concerns that you may have for your child, tween, or teen.  Each child is unique, and I use a variety of techniques that are modified to fit your child’s needs including play therapy, expressive arts, games, activities, and talk therapy.  I will also work with you as a parent in learning how to respond to your child’s feelings and behaviors in the most effective and healthy ways.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist specializing in child and adolescent therapy.  I received my BA in Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University and my MS in Counseling and Development from Texas Woman’s University in 1999.  My clinical experience includes counseling children and adolescents at non-profit agencies and in private practice.

In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my family and having fun with my grandkids.   I'm an avid reader and love to create fun craft projects and bake yummy things.

Specialties

Play Therapy

I have received certification from the Association for Play Therapy as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) which means I've completed many hours of specialized training and supervision in play therapy.  Evidence based research shows that play therapy is the most effective  treatment for younger children for a wide range of issues.

Highly Sensitive Children

Does your child become overwhelmed by loud noises, bright lights, chaotic places, or have other sensory sensitivities? Do they feel their emotions intensely and have frequent meltdowns? Do they struggle with big changes? Are they very intuitive and empathetic? If so, they may be a Highly Sensitive Child (HSC).  High sensory sensitivity is a personality trait, not a disability or disorder, but it can cause increased anxiety and stress in

children and adults living in this overstimulating world.

I am a highly sensitive person (HSP) myself and have a passion for helping highly sensitive children and teens learn to cope and thrive in life.  I've completed training to be recognized as an HSP knowledgeable therapist and look forward to helping you and your child learn more about this amazing trait.
